I had a decision to make. I was 7 years into a business that I'd built from love, from joy, from passion but it was slowly eating away at my soul. The love I'd once felt had faded and suddenly I felt trapped within the very thing I'd built to set me free.
It didn't happen quickly, it was a slow burn. I realised I'd been in my head for months overthinking things, replaying conversations that I'd had with people, things that really didn't need to take up that much head space. I'd built a wall around myself. Kept myself in some kind of self-preservation mode for longer than I care to admit.
I'd been bullied at school you see, which resulted in one toxic relationship after another. Then I experienced redundancy after redundancy. I didn't know it at the time but my sense of being rejected was strong. My business, which started as something that was meant for me, something I felt like I had control over, something that I felt could offer me safety was actually keeping me small, hidden, people pleasing. Except I had nooooo idea at the time. I thought I was having fun, until my eldest started school and my youngest started four days at her childminders.
The sudden freedom I was expecting to feel, manifested itself as feeling trapped.
I knew I had to make a decision. To either continue or do something about it.
I think you can guess which path I chose. I craved real connection. Proper connection. And so I got help. Loved it so much, retrained. Grew my confidence, grew my business, wrote a book, started a podcast. Met all kinds of people from all over the world and now I attend events on my own. Not that long ago, ALL of this would have terrified me.
I used to tell myself that my story was so unique that no one could ever possibly resonate, until I started serving my clients. Until we started getting under the layers of the stories that had been keeping them shrinking themselves and now I've found the throughline.
